Hima Seafood

In Rjukan in Tinn county, Norway are HIMA Seafood, building the world’s largest land-based farming facility for sea trout. With a base area of 27,000 square meters across two levels and a total length of 320 meters, this is one of the most ambitious fish farming projects in the world. The facility will house a hatchery, initial feeding area, a fry sections, growth areas, energy plant, slaughterhouse, and packaging facility.

This large-scale project sets new standards for both sustainable production and energy efficiency. Total Betong AS is the main contractor for the project, while Bryne Rør is responsible for the piping installations. Purus is supplying customized hygienic drainage solutions.

Tailor-made solutions for the fish farming facility

Farming facilities impose very high demands on hygiene, safety, and functionality, and our products must withstand the demanding environments in which they are installed. In collaboration with Bryne Rør, we have specially manufactured solutions in stainless, acid-resistant steel, designed to meet the requirements of NS 9416.

NS 9416, Norwegian Standard 9416, is a standard that sets strict requirements for land-based aquaculture facilities, ensuring that the solutions are adapted to the stresses they are exposed to. The standard reduces the risk of fish escaping or getting injured and is used both in the construction of new farming facilities and in the expansion or renovation of existing ones. For a project of this scale, it is crucial to have solutions developed for long service life, high operational reliability, and optimal hygiene.

Simon Reece from Bryne Rør is the project supervisor. Here, he is showing the Puruschannel slot (slot drains) installed in an area where slaughtering, filleting, and packaging take place.
